Helen Hillyard
I read History of Art at Newnham between 2009 and 2012 and, after graduating, I completed an MA at the Courtauld Institute of Art.
I am currently Curator at Dulwich Picture Gallery, London, where I am responsible for the Gallery’s world-renowned collection of historic paintings, including works by Rembrandt, Raphael, Canaletto and Gainsborough. I have a specialism in seventeenth-century Dutch painting, and have published and lectured widely in this area (and occasionally appeared in the odd documentary). I am also leading Dulwich Picture Gallery’s new contemporary programme, which seeks to build a dialogue between painters of the past and present. I have previously worked in the curatorial departments at the National Gallery, London, and Birmingham Museums.
Outside of work, I swim outdoors, play netball, do yoga, paint and occasionally go birdwatching. I am a woman of many hobbies!
I am happy to offer advice to anyone considering a career in the heritage, creative, or commercial arts sectors. I have a lot of experience as a mentor, but am also open to a casual chat with anyone considering their options and looking for support.
