Suzanne Coles
I studied English at Newnham. My first role was as a Management Consultant where I quickly specialised in life sciences, which was an accident but one that has defined my professional career. They needed someone who could speak French …. I tried to explain that I’d studied medieval French, but was packed off for a year.
Since then, I have meandered through investment banking, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, venture capital, private equity before setting up my own company which focuses on digital therapeutics in the biotechnology industry.
During lockdown, I studied (virtually) at MIT as part of their AI and Machine Learning programme, and my work now focuses on predictive healthcare. I am working on everything from women-backed start-ups to sending clinical trials to the international space station.
I am passionate about women’s education and helping women with international careers as I have spent most of mine abroad, from Switzerland to Taiwan to Rio de Janeiro. I’m a bit of an outlier and a good person to talk to if you are trying to think about possible careers when you haven’t a clue. I’m happy to mentor, chat, introduce Newnham alumae to opportunities. Please call!
