Wendy Hirsh
I studied maths for two years and then switched to management studies for my Part II. I stayed on in Cambridge and took a PhD in workforce planning and career choice. Hence my lifelong interest in how individuals - including Newnham students - approach their own career development!
My work is a mix of applied research and consulting. My clients, usually employers or groups of employers, are in many different sectors and sometimes include public policy or sector bodies. I work on several aspects of employment, including workforce planning, workforce development, leadership and career development. I am self-employed, working from my home in Sussex, and collaborate closely with employment researchers in a number of institutes and university departments.
I am happy to discuss career trends and choices and in particular careers in HR, working in applied social science research, and self-employment. I have run and helped with many of Newnham's career events for students.
