Crystal Jing Jing Yeo
I am a US Board Certified Neurologist subspecializing in Neuromuscular Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine and also hold US Board Certifications in these neurological subspecialties. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM), and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom.
I graduated with Distinction in Medicine and PhD in Immunology from the MB/PhD program at Cambridge. At the same time, I was the MB/PhD Cohort Representative and Student-Staff Liaison Committee Representative.
After completing my UK Postgraduate Medicine Diploma (MRCPUK), I completed Residency in Neurology and Fellowship in Neuromuscular Medicine and Electrodiagnostic Medicine in the United States. I served on medical committees at local, regional and national levels in organizations including the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM), Texas Medical Association, and TEXPAC Board of Directors. I have been selected by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) for the prestigious Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum (PALF) and Live Well Lead Well Leadership (LWLW) Programs for advocacy leaders and awarded the competitive AAN Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum Action Plan Support Grant to continue advocacy efforts.
My research interests are in Translational Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine, medical education and physician well-being. At Harvard, my clinical research was on novel therapies for motor neuron disease. I have led studies on mindfulness interventions for trainee wellness and physician responses to Hurricane Harvey, and work with AAN to engage physician wellness advocacy leaders and provide effective online advocacy resources. I returned from Harvard, Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital to Singapore in 2019.
My current appointments are Clinician-Scientist, Joint Medical Director of the National Drug Development Center, Group Leader of my Translational Neuromuscular Medicine Laboratory, Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen, Adjunct Assist. Professor at the LKC School of Medicine/Imperial College London and Associate with Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard. I give international grand rounds and lectures in my medical specialties, publish widely, review for academic journals and present at conferences. I was the Singapore delegate to the 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea program for policy to increase research and development and technology transfers among ASEAN countries and Korea and have chaired the 2021 ASEAN-Republic of Korea workshop discussions on post-pandemic economies.
I am deeply invested in promoting the advancement of diverse students, trainees, academics, and women at every stage of their careers through mentorship, sponsorship, and professional development. Over the years, I have mentored students and colleagues who have approached me for career guidance, assistance and pastoral care across three continents. I currently serve on the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Pipeline Subcommittee, which creates programs for high school, college and medical schools that attract Underrepresented in Neurology (UIN) students to Neurology and Neuroscience and supports their mentoring. I am active in discussions and peer support, mentoring and education for the Women Neurologists’ Group (WNG) and am part of the Women Mentoring Excellence in Neurology (WoMEN) program, a collaborative effort between AAN and WNG. In Singapore, I serve as a facilitator for the National Conversation on Women’s Development with the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.
I believe that compassion is at the heart of what we do, and together we can make a difference. Happy to connect with students and colleagues and help with career support in academic medicine, translational medicine and drug development, including lab placements and scholarships for PhDs/postdocs and specialist training for medics and clinician-scientists in UK, US and abroad.
