Catherine Calderwood
I recently became Professor of Health Futures and Global Partnerships at the University of Strathclyde.
I am an obstetrician by background and was the first female Chief Medical Officer for Scotland from 2015-2020 . Prior to being appointed as CMO, I worked for the Scottish Government and NHS England where I was the National Clinical Director for maternity and women's health. I am particularly proud of my series of CMO reports on 'Realistic Medicine', which puts people at the centre of decision making about their care and advises against over diagnosis and over treatment. They have been universally well received by professionals and the public, and have been read by millions all over the world.
I am very happy to chat about careers in academia, health and healthcare policy and the civil service/Government. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the varied and interesting roles I have had!
