Brigid Sutcliffe
I am now a multiple non-executive director, after a thirty-five year executive career. I am a non-executive director and Audit Chair of two listed investments trusts: Strategic Equity Capital plc and Troy Income & Growth Trust plc. I am a Trustee of Muscular Dystrophy UK, a medical research and support charity, and on the Finance Committee of Newnham College.
Previously in my non-executive director career I was Chair of a housing association and non-executive director of the National Physical Laboratory, a government-owned organisation combining scientific research and commercial operations and of BRE Group, a research-based business in the built environment and construction areas. I also sat on the Audit Committees of the Imperial War Museum and of RICS (Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors). From 2017-2021 I was an Associate Fellow of Newnham, sitting on its Governing Body.
After studying economics at Newnham, graduating in 1980, I qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG, followed by an MBA at London Business School, including an exchange to the University of Chicago. I worked for nine years in corporate finance, including several years as a cross-border Italian M&A specialist with Unicredit and with Arthur Andersen Corporate Finance. I left banking to have my third child and soon built my own consultancy business, working in corporate finance strategy and valuation. I worked for eleven years to 2015 in two niche change management consultancies, specialising in organisational effectiveness, corporate governance engagement and the development of leadership teams.
I became an Honorary Newnham Associate in 2024, after ten years as an Associate.
I am very happy to give career advice, mentoring, CV advice and general career support. I can talk about finance careers, including those in investment management, portfolio careers and paths to becoming a non-executive director.
