Sarah Breeden
Since graduating in Economics from Newnham over 25 years ago, I have been happily ensconced at the Bank of England undertaking the widest variety of hugely interesting roles in what I can honestly say have been the most fascinating of times. (Managing the financial crisis of 2008-9, making sure the UK financial system supported the economy through Covid, establishing an independent central bank for monetary policy and dealing with the consequences of the UK’s decision to leave the EU - to name just a few!) My current role is as Executive Director Financial Stability Strategy and Risk and I am a member of the Financial Policy Committee - the body tasked by Parliament with ensuring the UK financial system supports our economy in bad times as well as good. I’m also leading the Bank’s work on climate change.
As well as working, I have been back to school (to do an MSc in Finance at London Business School) and have managed (just about!) to have a balanced life as a working mum. I was the creator and co-Chair for 8 years of the Bank’s women’s network.
Having been fortunate to find myself in a career I thoroughly enjoy, I hope my experience will help others on topics such as career advice, mentoring, CV advice and general career support. Through my time at the Bank, I have had good insight into the City generally as well as into Whitehall.
